Laura LeBlanc grew up in Seattle, WA and is currently a Master’s student in Glaciology at the University of Alaska in Fairbanks studying icequakes and ice velocity of Bering Glacier. After completion of her Master’s degree, she plans to pursue a PhD in snow science. She patrols at Crystal Mountain and is an avid skier and climber in the Eastern Alaska Range and Chugach Mountains. Her snow profile work is meticulous.
Growing up with the North Cascades as her playground, Laura developed a love of both snow and the mountains and has worked as both a ski instructor and professional ski patroller. As part of a National Science Foundation fellowship, Laura has the privilege of teaching science to fourth-, fifth-, and sixth-graders at a local elementary school in Fairbanks. Her self-designed curriculum includes teaching a unit on snow, avalanches, and glaciers.

Laura instructs the Women's Backcountry Travel Weekends - an opportunity for women to get out, learn, and enjoy the winter backcountry in a safe, fun environment. When not doing research or teaching, Laura can be found on the local x-country ski trails in Fairbanks or skiing and climbing in the Eastern Alaska Range and Chugach Mountains.
