Jeff has been professionally involved in the avalanche industry since 2005, and has worked as a heli-ski guide, avalanche forecaster, and a course instructor. He has instructed avalanche courses for AIARE, the University of Alaska, the North American Outdoor Institute and presented awareness classes for both private companies and public schools. In 2006, Jeff co-authored a paper regarding 'Skier-Triggered Surface Hoar' for the International Snow Science Workshop in Telluride, CO.
His ski-mountaineering list includes hundreds of ascents/descents in the Alaska Range, Chugach Mtns, Wrangell-St. Elias Mtns, Rocky Mtns and the European Alps, all complete without incident. Jeff's expedition experience includes trips to Denali and Mt. Logan, and he is currently gearing-up for another month-long trip to the East Ridge of Mt. Logan this spring.
While growing up, Jeff spent his summers working as a deckhand on his friend's boats to earn money toward completing his engineering degree. His most recent summer employment found him on a geological exploration crew being dropped in the bear-infested rain forests of South-East Alaska's Admiralty Island. When not working, he enjoys spending the summer hours with family and friends on Alaskan rivers, running ultra-marathons and wilderness racing.
