Gabe started backcountry skiing in Idaho when he was 13 years old. He had no idea that snow could actually "slide" down mountains. It wasn't until Gabe was 16 and witnessed his first avalanche that he decided he'd better figure out how to avoid them. Gabe began educating himself by reading books and following more experienced people into the mountains.
These experiences led Gabe to 10 years of industry work including private and professional guiding, formal avalanche safety instruction for multiple organizations, and holds various certifications ranging from US Avalanche Level I & II to his Canadian Ops L1 and has completed the necessary course and fieldwork for his AIARE instructor's certification.
